While on my sabbatical I decided to stop just pinning ideas and recipes and actually try the things I pin. So I have decided to do a weekly Pinned It and Tried It post.
My favorite and most used pinned tip and trick is one I found on Ask Anna and titled how to get rid of that boy bathroom smell.
I was a little skeptical when I tried this but I thought It wouldn't hurt anything. After all, I HATE cleaning the toilet, and anything that makes the job easier I am all for doing. Plus this process calls for all household items, no toxic cleaning chemicals involved and therefore is safe for the kids to do too.
The how to:
It calls for lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar and a damp rag.
Make a paste of baking soda and lemon juice. Fair warning - it fizzes like crazy so be careful and have a bigger bowl or pour the juice slowly so you don't spill. (It should be mixed to the consistency of pancake mix.) Then you spoon the past around the base of the toilet where the linoleumor tile meets the toilet.
Let it set for 15 minutes while you read one more chapter in your latest favorite book ;)
Next spray the mix with white vinegar. The mixture will fizz and bubble much like the volcano did you made in school did. Once the fizzing is complete, wipe it up!
What I love about this pin:
The smell! The bathroom no longer smells like the bathroom - it is amazing! When I poured the soda/juice mix it smelled just like old fashioned lemon head candies.
You don't have to have boys to try this cleaning method, I think it is valuable to any basic bathroom cleaning process.
I love that the chemical reaction fizzes gets down into the crevice between the toilet and the floor. I don't have to scrub because the mix does it for me. I just have to wipe it up. Easy peasy!
I have taken it once step further and poured some baking soda into the toilet bowl then some white vinegar. The same fizzes happen again and scrub the toilet for you. Once the fizzing stops take your toilet brush and scrub like normal. It reactivates the baking soda and vinegar once more for additional cleaning.
So there you have it, my favorite pin of all time. I will be posting a pin I have tried once a week for you. Some pins will not be book related but lets face it, while we want our lives to revolve around books - we can't read all the time. So why not give you some tips and tricks that can cut your cleaning time in half so you can have more time to read?
