Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week's question is what books would you grab if your house were on fire. I have a different take on this weeks question and would love to hear your thoughts on your B.O.B. (Bug Out Book)
I have two books with sentimental value. Number one on the list is my autographed ARC of Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. I won it on a blog in April before it was released. It was my first ARC and ignited a new passion in my life, this blog. Plus, it has been one of my favorite books. If I had to grab one book before bolting out of my home that would be it.
The second book would by The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting. Again it has sentimental value.
Several years ago my cousin was at the heart of some Tornado's in the south. For three days she had to hunker down at home without electricity with her young family. For three days they read Harry Potter books by flashlight. It helped pass time and took the kids mind off the howling wind and pounding rain.
For me reading is an escape from reality. I can forget my cares, problems and responsibility when I am lost in a book and for that reason I have books packed in my bug out bags (72 hour emergency bags). I imagine that if I had to deal with the stress of natural disaster the stories would be a comfort to me and my family. This is also the reason I have a hard time jumping on the ereader wagon. I want to be able to read a good book when I have no access to electricity.
Here are a couple of books I have packed in my kits:
The big no brainer is Harry Potter. Its magic, its perfect for old and young. Harry Potter is comfort reading for me.
I thought about having Hunger Games but it might hit too close to home if the cause of said disaster is because of war or government issues. Although, it may serve as survival inspiration too.
Peter and the Starcatchers. Peter Pan is one of the best stories and Dave Barry/Ridley Person's take on a classic story is a fun adventure.
In my personal bag I would have The Iron Druid Chronicls and Mercy Thompson series.
I do like some of your picks. I would need to have Harry Potter, it is a must!
I would also need the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by Ward, Perfect Chemistry, possibly the Twilight series. I'm re-reading Twilight this year so we shall see if I still feel the same way about the books as I did back then. :)
Alexa - I actually like the twilight audiobooks, makes re reading easier. :) I tried the first black dagger book and didn't finish it. Maybe I should give it another try - seems everyone loves them.
Awesome post! I 2nd Harry Potter and Mercy Thompson. I would add Twilight, the Chicagoland Vampire series, the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti, J.R. Ward's BDB series, the Riley Jenson series, Sara Humphrey's Amoveo Legend series, the Vampire academy series. and as many of Kelley Armstrong's books as I could fit in the bag!

Your post was a very interesting read. Kevin Hearne's IDC made my list, too. (I really did grab them during a natural disaster.) Thanks for sharing!

Karis - We keep our bags at the front door with everything vital in them. That way if we have to bust get out fast we' re ready.
oops, in the closet by the front door. LOL
