Reasons I DO want an ereader:
I wouldn't have to haul a dozen books on vacation. I need a separate bag just to put the books in.
I find so many amazing books on Amazon that are on sale.
I wouldn't have to wear my headlamp to read in the middle of the night. ;)
With AMAZING websites like Net Galley I NEED an ereader right? I do not enjoy reading books on my computer.
It is an awesome toy.
Here is the reasons why I DON'T want an ereader:
I love books, I love the smell of books and the feel of the pages.
I don't like how an ebook cost the same as a hardcover. Doesn't make sense to me but what do I know?
I really like to look at books on shelves. They are beautiful!
I like being able to lend a book to a friend or family member.
I like autographed copies of books. What does the author autograph when you go to a signing?
99% of the books I read come from the library. I wouldn't have the same luxury with an ereader.
What happens when your ereader is out of date? Does the software expire like it did on my iPod? And what happens when you loose your ereader? Do you loose your library too?
All these devices! A phone, a computer, an iPod, an ereader. I am going to have to have a bag to carry all the electronics instead of books.
I would love to hear what you think. What brand you prefer and if you have had any negative or positive experiences with an ereader.
Thanks for you help!
Jen

I have a Nook, which I enjoy. However, I still mainly get paperbacks. I guess, that I stuck in my ways. I really need to get more e-books, because I'm running out of physical room in my house. I like the Nook, because you can put pdf files on it.
I don't have an e-reader, and I really don't want one. I hope I don't have to go that route some day. :(
Just stopping by to say hello and to take a look around.
ONLY 24 hours left to enter.
I am having a Father's Day giveaway on my blog if you would like to stop by.

I would have loved to be able to afford a Nook. Like the idea of colours and what not, but I bought a Kindle. It's cheaper and a lot less expensive to buy books via the Kindle based on my location (Jamaica). I'm liking the Kindle, but I also love books, so I'm doing half my reading on paper and the other half on the e-reader. The danger I'm finding with the e-reader is the temptation to buy too many books because they're cheap.
I know that kindles are a bit sketchy, in that they only let you purchase your e-books from Amazon and Amazon has the ability to look at your highlights and markings at any time if they need to. They also have a history of selling e-books they don't have the rights to, which results in them deleting the e-book directly off the reader without a warning.
I would honestly go with a sony reader if you want a high quality reader. they're great and you can purchase your books from whomever you want. All e-books are now by law the same price whether it's through Amazon or The King's English. This is part of the E-fairness laws that have just passed.
Rachel,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, You just helped me make my descision. :)
Have a great evening.

I love my Nook. It works great with Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab and NetGalley which is what I mainly use it for.
I know that your Nook library is stored online in your barnes and noble account....so if you lost your Nook or bought a new one you can just re-download everything that you previously purchased. I think the software updates on it's own....It doesn't even really ask me I don't think...But I love how easy it is to read on my Nook! I would completely recommend the color Nook!
