Nothing to do with books

This week while playing outside with my children I looked up to see white cotton candy clouds float by. The vision transported me to the times as a child that I lay and watch the clouds roll across the sky while searching for imaginative shapes.

My father and I went fishing often throughout my childhood. Once, while night fishing, we ran into a couple from California. They told us that they come to Utah every summer to fish and camp, that Utah is a beautiful place to be. The young couple then told us that the best part of Utah was the sky. They had never seen a sky as blue as they see in Utah.

The farthest I have been from home is Seattle to the north, Denver to the East and Mazatlan Mexico to the south. I haven’t seen the world, but I have seen enough to know that Utah does in fact have beautiful blue skies.

While my kids splashed in the water I pondered the sky, the peace it brings and memories it holds for me. I embraced the giggles, screams and the occasional spray of water that splat across my face and thought of years gone by – just as those cotton candy clouds did when I was a child.

Kim2 contest

Have you read the Body Finder by Kimberly Derting? I fell in love with cover and thus read it. I have not read a "scary" book before so I was apprehensive about this one. I was enthralled. I loved it - I couldn't put it down and it was intense.

Kim Franklin is giving away a copy of The Body Finder! As my blog continues to grow you'll learn that I classify books by whether or not I would own the book. I checked this book out from the library and now must own it, I will read it again.

my first time

It was warm, the beginning of fall, the colors were gold, red and orange. The leaves skittered across the faded pavement and I couldn't wait to get home. The thump of my new shoes on the sidewalk beat faster and faster as I approached the house.

I opened the screen door and slid in, letting it squeak and slam shut. I lugged off my He Man back pack excited to show mom what treasures were inside. It seemed like a haul then, but there were only two or three books in the back pack abyss. Dick, Jane and spot waited for me. The thin paperback books smelled like the library and felt like heaven between my fingers. I thumbed through the pages devouring the vivid pictures of a white puppy with black spots and a little girl and boy skipping hand in hand.

Mom sat at the table with me as we looked at the letters that slowly became words. These words described actions, colors and emotions. I remember sounding out words I didn't know and being so proud and happy when the word came out correctly. A surety flooded my mind as I read a book for the first time.

Not only is this memory a happy one, my first real reading memory, It was an afternoon with my mom, glass of milk and a cookie. Soon Jane, Dick and Spot became like old friends.

I am grateful my mother read to me. She read me to sleep every night after she tucked me in; rocket ship style then kissed my forehead. It was a tradition I hope to pass onto my children someday. I hope that reading becomes as big a part of their lives as it has mine.

I still love to read in bed.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I started Kjovus, book blog, as an outlet for my reading hobby. I love to talk about books and particularly enjoy the paranormal and young adult genres. I also enjoy westerns and some suspense.

I occasionally will read a murder mystery but my feelings on this are that I read to escape reality and visit a different world. The world we live in is depressing enough when you watch the news. I would rather read about scary things that are not real than scary things that are.

My favorite book series are The Hunger Games, Vampire Academy, Mercy Thompson and The Wolves of Mercy Falls. I also enjoyed The Hourglass Door, The Dark Divine, Wings and Spells.

While my love of paranormal started with Twilight, I have since learned that even though I liked the books, they are at the bottom of my favorite list now.

I will be trying to do some reviews and as time passes I am sure I will get better at what I do. For now, I don't have any followers so its as good as time as any to learn.

There are many anticipated books that will be released this fall. I have a big wish list of books that seems to get bigger and bigger, its been a good year for great novels.

Beautiful Blue Piggies

My sweet 3 year old little girl loved the cover of The Dark Divine so much that she took my copy and hid it in her room. When I found it she kept pointing at the purple on the cover and saying pretty. I was so exited when I found out the Author Bree Despain was giving away nail polish in the color "Dark Divine". Now my little Morgan loves her "Dark Divine Piggies" and I love the Dark Divine. (And Morgan's little piggies too)

Bree Despain released the cover of the 2ND book in the series The Lost Saint today on her blog. Isn't it breathtaking? Bree also commented that there will be Lost Saint nail polish, hopefully she will have a book tour here in Utah so I can score some of The Lost Saint Piggies for sweet little Morgan.
